The beginning of may

The applicants for wing-guide all did a great job.  Unfortunately I could only pick 2 and an alternate. Dan Soto and Christian Barrett will be the future wing guides of B-Wing and Ethan Phillips will be their Alternate.  I am sure they will all do great next year and hopefully work with them.

Housing came out and everyone for the most part was pretty excited for their assignments.  Almost everyone in 1501 got the wing and room they wanted.

We also had a kickball game where our wing played a game versus 1505 D wing.  We lost, but it was a great time and myself as well as the wing guides are hoping to make it a more common occurrence next year.

April 16th-30th

What's going on in B-Wing?

In this part of the month we have had two more programs and the wing guide applications were due.
Our first program was a dancing program that was held by one of our wing guides Daniel Soto.  He is a choreographer in the Hispanic/Latin cultural show on campus and he taught us how to do basic steps for some of the more popular dances that are being done for the show.  This includes Bachata, Cumbia, and Salsa.

Then on the 23rd our wing joined C-Wing to do the relationship in a fishbowl program.  Students within the two wings put forth their questions in an anonymous form and then myself and C-wing RC Natasha White answered as many of their questions as we could without taking to much time out of their days.  there were plenty of joke questions but overall we had a great number of very thoughtful questions.  the students all said that it was informative and enjoyable so that sounds like a success to me.
The wing has 6 applicants for wing guide.  I have broken them into two groups and they are both going to hold a program for the wing this coming week of the 29th- May 6th.  This is in conjunction to a small interview of each of them just for me to ask them any question that I feel will be important to know before assigning the two wing guides and their alternate.

April 1st-15th

What's happening in April...

So far in this month we have had 2 programs besides the "What would you save?" program talked about in the last blog.
The first of these is the program that was held about the SIR, Internship, and research programs that the academy offers to students.  The upper class men took time after curfew check to talk about each of the programs that they are currently apart of and their experiences in each of the different types of programs.  Then they allowed the sophomores to ask any questions they might have about the process in order to get into one of these programs and if the upper class men had any tips on which program they should attempt to get.
The second program we had so far this month was called "Man and Masculinity."  This program allowed the B-wingers to talk about what they thought being a "Man" meant to them or what it should me to others.  We discussed their ideas of it then I showed them a TED talk with a man talking about how the phrase "Be a Man" has hurt society.  I asked the boys after watching this if they agreed or disagreed with him and why?  It was great to hear all of their ideas and opinions on a subject that can be very important but not often brought up in school or everyday.

March

In March we had a few programs. With RSL applications just around the corner the upper class-men wanted to put on a program about interviewing and tips along with it.  This way the underclassmen do not feel as intimidated during their interviews.
We also had a program called What would you save.  The students all got 15 seconds to run back to their room and decide one thing to "save" if there was a fire in the wing.  Many of the kids decided that they would save their computers or back packs.  While some...like Jacob Sutter decided to save a banana peel because he was more concerned with the 15 second time limit than the item he wanted to save.  The kids really seemed to like it and it was great getting to hear what they would save and why.

Clash of the Halls

Clash of the Halls

Clash of the halls was great.  1501 had a great time competing in all of the events.  B-wing was very involved in the events and even lead groups of students to compete in creating a profile picture for the hall during clash as well as being a large part of the hall movie.  The hall placed 2nd in talent show where they got to really show off how diverse and talented our hall is.  The hall decorations were awesome and we liked them so much that the RCs decided we wanted to keep them up for the rest of the year.  The hall placed fourth overall and the hall was extremely excited.

Clash has Begun

In the last few weeks Clash of the Halls has really picked up.  The colors for each hall were released and 1501 was given the color white. The hall voted on the theme of Paranormal.

B-wing is involved in a lot of the events like Movie, hall decorations, and hall dance.

I have been lucky enough to be able to chaperone a few different halls' dance practices as well as our own.  they look great and I can't wait to see the final product for all of them.

This is a picture of 1501 working on the hall dance in the hall commons.

February 2018 Roommate Wars

Hello friends and family of 1501 B wing,

I apologize for the tardiness of this blog post,  the blog is the one responsibility that I forget about.  That being the case I do not have a picture of the events so far, I will try to be better about that.

The week of February 4th the boys had roommate wars where they competed in different games and events to earn points and see who would win.  These events include creating a door decoration, a Super Smash Brother's tournament, the Iron Chef event where they had to make a single dish to be judged from secret ingredients, as well as a roommate newly wed game to see how well each roommate pair knows each other.

I will be posting a new blog post soon to tell you about the things that happen in B wing.
